It looks like former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy’s predictions on the fallout of the state bifurcation are coming true.
Kiran predicted that there would be constant wars between Telangana and AP if the State was bifurcation. True to his prediction, the officials of the two States came to virtual blows on Friday with the Telangana government refusing to release water from Nagarjunasagar to Krishna delta.
The Telangana police stalled the attempts of the AP Irrigation officials to break open the locks of the control room with the help of their local police to release water from the reservoir into the right canal. This led to clashes between Telangana and Andhra police.
Telanganga Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao took strong objection to Andhra political leaders’ threat to break the project gates to release water to the delta. He alleged that AP had already utilized 80 tmc more than what it was entitled to and was now staking claim on the remaining water at the cost of Telangana farmers.
On the other hand, AP Irrigation Minister Devineni accused the Telangana government of playing politics on water only to divert people’s attention in the wake of Chandrababu Naidu’s visit to Warangal.
