After successfully conquering Greater Hyderabad during the just-concluded GHMC elections, Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is eyeing on capturing Khammam, which is also dominated in most parts by Seemandhra settlers.
The TRS has already made its presence felt by winning the MLC seat under local bodies’ quota, though it had hardly any ZPTCs and MPTCs in the district. It is now going all out to win the Khammam municipal corporation, elections for which are due in a few months from now.
As part of the strategy, KCR is planning to lure the lone Telugu Desam Party MLA from Sattupalli Sandra Venkata Veeraiah into the TRS, when he undertakes a two-day tour of Khammam district from February 15.
He has already attracted senior TDP leader Tummala Nageshwara Rao and made him a minister and got him elected as the MLC.
And two YSR Congress party MLAs – T Venkateshwarlu and B Madan Lal – from the district have also joined the TRS last year.
If the TRS can capture the Khammam municipality, the conquest of Telangana will complete for KCR. As part of his efforts, the Chief Minister will undertake a detailed visit of Khammam Town.
He will interact with the people living in slum areas. Later, he will hold a review meeting with the district officials.
Next day, KCR will visit Paleru Reservoir and will lay foundation stone for Rs. 90 crore worth Bhakta Ram Das Lift Irrigation Scheme in Maderipuram. Later, he will address a public meeting at the same venue.
The TDP MLA is expected to join the TRS at this public meeting, say sources.
