JP Takes Political Sanyas!

JP Takes Political Sanyas!

At last, former bureaucrat and founder-president of Lok Satta Party Dr Jayaprakash Narayan has realized that he is not cut out for politics.

He has neither money nor manpower to run a political party and it is difficult to practice money-based and caste-based politics.

On Tuesday, JP declared that his party will not be contesting any elections – local bodies, state assembly or Parliament – hereafter.

“Please don’t call Lok Satta a political party hereafter. It will continue like an NGO as it was in the past, fighting for the problems faced by the people,” he said.

Lok Satta emerged as a political party before 2009 elections, promising to bring a “change” in the electoral politics.

Like Aam Admi Party in Delhi, Lok Satta generated a lot of euphoria among the youth in urban areas, but it failed to convert the same into votes, as it had no money and organizational structure.

It had won just one MLA seat – that of JP himself from Kukatpally – in the 2009 elections, though it could win two per cent of the total votes polled. From then, it gradually lost contact with the people.

It also faced the wrath of the people with its inconsistent stand on Telangana issue and had lost all the seats in the 2014 elections. JP did not contest the Assembly elections, but lost his deposit in the Malkajgiri Lok Sabha polls.

The organization had several splits and finally, JP decided to wind up the party which cannot compete with the traditional political parties.
