Is It Time For A Separate Governor?

Mr. Narasimhan has done a stellar job as the governor of United Andhra Pradesh and now as Governor of both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Under his watchful eye, the Telangana and Seemandhra agitations never turned violent to the point of causing panic among the public.

But post-bifurcation, there are a host of issues which have become the bone of contention between T and AP.

Frequently, the issues have been discussed in front of the Governor and yet no satisfactory resolutions have been arrived at.

Governor Narasimhan has the reputation of being on good terms with both Chandrababu and KCR. He has even given a good report of both the Chief Ministers at Delhi further endearing himself to them. But this could actually be a handicap.

While the union government believes that a known and trusted face as Governor would be acceptable to both States, Narasimhan in his bid to not antagonize either State is perhaps wielding only the carrot and not the stick.

Even though Hyderabad is the common capital for both States for another ten years, with AP geared for development, perhaps the time is opportune for AP to have its own Governor now, someone who can stand up for AP whenever a dispute with the Telanganites arises, instead of someone like Narasimhan who would not want to displease either side.

The partition wounds of the State are not going to heal anytime soon! AP would have to fight a belligerent Telangana for its fair share of funds from the Center and in this context, an exclusive Governor for AP would be a welcome move.
