The reports that Telugu Desam Party MLA Ramakrishna, representing Venkatagiri constituency in Nellore district had demanded Rs 5 crore bribe from a railway contractor created sensation among the people.
But surprisingly, it was not highlighted much in the media. Except Sakshi media house and a couple of newspapers and channels belonging to the Left parties, no other media played it up at all, though it is a very big issue.
The MLA was caught red-handed, as the audio tapes exposing the MLA threatening the contractors of dire consequences if they did not pay him Rs 5 crore came to light. Yet, the Chandrababu Naidu government did not act and there was no action from the Anti-Corruption Bureau officials.
It is surprising as to how Naidu managed the media and ensure that the issue was not highlighted.
“Had it been any other MLA from the Opposition party, it would have been a big news by now. But, Naidu hushed up the issue, after the MLA clarified to him that he had not taken any money from the contractors,” an Opposition leader said.
