As expected, senior Congress leader and former minister Devineni Rajasekhar alias Nehru on Tuesday announced his decision to join the Telugu Desam Party.
He, along with his son Avinash and Krishna district Congress Committee president Kadiyala Buchibabu, met TDP president and chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu at the latter’s residence in Vijayawada and held discussions with him. “We are formally joining the TDP on September 15,” Devineni said.
He said he had no option but to join the TDP to continue his political career. “I have no other flag to hold except that of the TDP. It is like home coming for me. I will treat this party like my mother and I have come back to my mother,” Devineni said.
Ever since the Congress put up a miserable performance in the 2014 elections, Nehru has been out of active politics. Though he wanted to go into the YSR Congress party, there is no place for him there because of the caste factor. So, he has no option but to look towards the ruling party to get back into political limelight. Moreover, Nehru was originally in the TDP, before shifting loyalties to the Congress.
