Graft Inquiry Threats When There Is No Work...?

It is now becoming increasingly common for Andhra Pradesh ministers to issue threats about starting enquiries into graft charges.

In fact, there is a cabinet sub-committee to fight corruption and it has been six months since it has been formed. Though the sub-committee meets once every fortnight, it keeps on repeating the same things after the meetings.

During recent times, they have threatened that they will take back the lands allotted in Lepakshi, that they will take strict action on VANPIC, that they will reopen cases on liquor barons, etc. This week, the sub-committee met on Tuesday and following the meeting, Minister Palle Raghunadha Reddy has repeated the same points.

However, the CBI had already conducted an enquiry and prepared a charge-sheet. So, one is only left wondering as to what the committee will find now.

It is widely known that leaders of all parties are involved in the liquor syndicate. Though it is out in the open, nothing much is done in terms of taking strict action irrespective of which government is in power. While action is necessary, no party ever takes any action. However, they do keep making statements just for people’s sake and to get a few bytes in media.
