YS Jagan saying that he would give back each and every acre of land to the farmers, currently being acquired by Naidu for the new capital, if he is voted to power, is nothing short of ridiculous.
This means that we are looking at around 38000 acres of land going back to the farmers’ kitty. But that is not the point! The point is: How in the name of God does Jagan intend to return the farmlands?
Once construction begins and the greenery is turned into a concrete jungle over the ensuing period of five years, how will Jagan return the lands? And we don’t even know what is going to come up there? And all this is assuming that Naidu does manage to get enough revenue for his new capital dreams.
The Opposition acts as a check on the government in a democracy. It includes bringing injustices of the ruling government to the notice of the media and public. But making statements of the above sort is just catering to populism.
How many such decisions of the ruling Party can Jagan undo if he comes to power? Isn’t he better off preventing the acquisition of land in the first place?
