Fact Sheet: Still In The 'Dark Ages'

That a highly reclusive person like Pawan Kalyan chooses to have a social media presence via Twitter is an indication of the popularity of social media and how it has become an integral part of our daily lives.

More importantly, one of the advantages a medium like Twitter offers is that it enables one to reach out directly to the people and therefore there is no scope for misinterpretation.

Leaders like Modi and Obama and even our home –grown politicians such as Chandrababu and his son are actively using the social media to put their point across.

That a populist leader like Mamata Banerjee is also on Twitter is enough to underscore the relevance of social media.

Hence, it is all the more surprising and strange that YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, founder of the YSRCP, media-baron and business tycoon does not have a presence on social media.

As an individual he might be a private person but as the head of YSRCP, there is absolutely no excuse for not reaching out to the public directly.

When other political parties are appointing ‘digital cells’, Jagan by still relying entirely on his mouthpiece, ‘Sakshi’ is proving himself oblivious to the changes sweeping across the globe.

Going ‘digital’ is no longer an option but a necessity. Campaigns and active participation on social media have proved to be instrumental in the victories of Obama and Modi.

The future is ‘digital’ and Jagan by not patronizing this excellent medium is only showing that he is still rooted in the ‘Dark Ages’.
