Doctors Pay No Heed To KCR

On April 11, KCR during a surprise check, found nine doctors at the state-run Fever Hospital missing from duty.

A day before, one doctor each from Osmania General Hospital and Niloufer Hospital, were similarly found absent during a visit by health authorities.

An enraged KCR then asked the health department to slap notices on the erring 11 doctors and separately to K Devaraj, the superintendent of Niloufer for poor sanitation at the hospital.

But this has now snowballed into a major issue with Telangana Government Doctors Association (TGDA) threatening to boycott work in all government hospitals.

“None of the doctors are guilty. The nine doctors were absent during the CM's visit as it was a public holiday. We will go on strike if the government does not drop the disciplinary action as it is unjust,” alleged Dr C Sairam, state vice-president of TGDA.

The doctors were asked to respond to the notices by Monday, which they failed to do so. If there was really no fault on the part of the doctors then all they need to do is explain the reason for their absence.

Indulging in blackmail through unionism does not reflect well on their noble profession. Are they exempt from any show-cause notice? Are they ‘untouchables’? They are part of society like everyone else and must follow the rules and regulations prescribed for them.

The threat to abstain from work for being pulled up for negligence in duty reflects poorly on their work ethics and is an indicator of  giant tumor sized egos.
