Dismiss Naidu, Impose President's Rule In AP!

The Andhra Pradesh government headed by Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu should be dismissed forthwith and President’s Rule be imposed forthwith, in the wake of the arrest of a political satirist and social media campaigner Inturi Ravi Kiran.

This demand has come from not a YSR Congress party leader but from former Supreme Court judge and former Press Council of India chairman Markandey Katju.

He dashed off a letter to President of India Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking dismissal of the Chandrababu Naidu government immediately.

He posted his letter on his Facebook page and it received both support and criticism.

Katju pointed out that that Naidu had got arrested Inturi Ravi Kiran, a cartoonist, for making and publishing cartoons against the Chief Minister and his son.

“Making and publishing cartoons is part of the freedom of speech guaranteed by Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution, and in a democracy it is the right of citizens to criticize the government, since the people are supreme in a democracy,” he said.

By this unconstitutional, autocratic, and undemocratic act it is evident that the present AP government cannot be run in accordance with the Constitution, and under Article 356 of the Constitution in such an event President's rule should be imposed in the state.

“Hence you are requested to dismiss the Chandrababu Naidu government, dissolve the AP Legislative Assembly and impose President's rule in AP and order fresh elections under Article 356 at the earliest,” he suggested.
