Defections first, cabinet next!

Chief Minister K.Chandrashekar Rao seems to be more interested in attracting more and more legislators from other parties into the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, rather than satisfying his own party MLAs by taking up cabinet expansion.

According to party sources, KCR has postponed the expansion of his cabinet and decided to concentrate in strategizing defection of legislators from the opposition parties, especially from the Congress and Telugu Desam Party.

Now, the talk is that the cabinet expansion will take place only after the budget session of the State Assembly.

KCR initially thought of expanding the cabinet before the Assembly session, which is not only obligatory but mandatory for his government, as he needs the ministers to effectively counter the opposition onslaught in the Assembly.

But he decided to postpone it as there are too many aspirants in the ruling party for ministerial berths and those who do not get might play spoilsport with the govenrment’s plans to tackle the opposition.

Another reason being cited is that KCR wants to utilize the Assembly session to  judge the performance of his legislators in countering the opposition attack in the House and those who put up good performance can be considered for the Cabinet berths.

Apart from ministerial berths the Chief Minister might use try to dangle as a carrot corporation posts to attract fence-sitters from the Congress and Telugu Desam Party.
