Consensus On Kapu Quota? My Foot!

Former minister and Kapu strongman Mudragada Padmanabham on Monday pooh-poohed Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s statement that the government would implement reservations for Kapus after discussing with all stakeholders and achieving 100 per cent consensus on the issue, after the submission of the Manjunatha Commission report.

In an open letter to Naidu, Mudragada wondered why Naidu had not talked about this consensus while including the Kapu reservations issue in the TDP election manifesto in 2014 and making an open promise to the community.

“You have kept the Kapu reservations issue in deep-freeze for three years and is trying to fool the community again to garner their votes in the next elections. But we are not fools to believe your words, a fruit kept in deep freeze will become rotten soon after it is taken out from the refrigerator,” he said.

The Kapu leader ridiculed the TDP president on achieving consensus on Kapu reservations.

“Why consensus in the state alone, you can as well try for a consensus across the country or even world. That way, you will get popularity across the world,” he said.

He alleged that Naidu was trying to create a wedge between Kapus and other BCs.

“We are not asking for a share in the BC quota. We are demanding separate quota for Kapus,” he stressed.
