The Bharatiya Janata Party leaders are surprised over the reports that megastar-politician Chiranjeevi is interested in joining the BJP by dumping the Congress in Andhra Pradesh.
Telangana State BJP chief spokesperson Sudhish Rambhotla says anyone, including Chiranjeevi, who was interested in the philosophy and policies of the BJP were welcome to join the party.
“It is a pleasant surprise as far as the speculation of Chiranjeevi joining the BJP. In any case, it is a matter to be decided by our AP Unit,” he said.
According to reports, Chiranjeevi is said to be upset with the Congress high command, particularly vice-president Rahul Gandhi, for ignoring him in the party activities.
The flashpoint came when Chiranjeevi meet Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi recently, when the latter told the megastar that he should better focus more on giving a fresh lease of life to the Congress in AP, rather than on concentrating on his 150th film.
“The Congress party has given you stature at the national level. It’s time you concentrate on reviving the party in Andhra Pradesh, instead of creating media hype about your 150th film,” Rahul is learnt to have told him.
A visibly humiliated Chiranjeevi told his close confidants that he would not like to continue in the Congress and in the present circumstances, the BJP is the best bet.
