Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has asked the Center to release funds for Polavaram or else complete the project in four years’ time.
In the eventuality that the Center decides to take on the responsibility for completing Polavaram, Naidu wanted it to reimburse AP for Rs 2,218 crore approximately which the AP govt has spent to date on Polavaram.
Given the rack record of the Naidu administration, it is better that the Center take over the Polavaram project.
Naidu on an earlier occasion asked for operational control to be with him even if the Center takes over. Even the operational control should be with the Center or else all projects would end up being sanctioned to only a particular section of society.
And what if Naidu gets funds for Polavaram and fails to complete it in four years? With allegations of massive corruption increasing by the day against the Naidu administration, the Center should take over Polavaram without any further delay in the best interests of the people of AP.
