CBI Refuses Inquiry Into Death of Karnataka Bureaucrat DK Ravi

NEW DELHI: Nearly three weeks after DK Ravi, a senior bureaucrat in Karnataka, was found dead in his home, the CBI has said it cannot investigate the case because the state government has imposed "conditions" by giving the agency a deadline of three months.

The 35-year-old IAS officer, who had taken on the sand mafia known in Kolar district of Karnataka, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his room at his official flat in Bengaluru on March 17.

The scope of CBI investigation in DK Ravi case cannot be decided by the state govt, CBI has reportedly said, adding, probe may be restricted to family only or may go up to govt or mafia.

The CBI has also objected to the three-month timeline set by the Karnataka government for the probe.

The investigative agency has told the government that it can't accept request for a time-bound probe.

"CBI has said 'don't put conditions like this'. We'll send it again to CBI," said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
