Capital Farmers: From The Pan Into The Fire?

Capital Farmers: From The Pan Into The Fire?

The farmers in the capital city zone are caught up in a situation that is leaving them breathless and completely dejected.

For starters, they were given soft threats to part with their lands. Hence, quite a few of them decided to give up their lands for land pooling voluntarily. Okay, that done, now they have got the shock of their lives.

Yes, the ruling TDP did keep up its promise and issue the first installment checks to the farmers. And the farmers deposited their cheques with their banks. Okay, the next question would be what is wrong with this? But that’s when the actual story begins.

Now that the cheques are with the banks, the banks are refusing to let the farmers draw any money saying that the money will go towards the payment of their pending loans.

In the past, AP CM Chandra Babu had announced that the government would give Rs 1.5 lakh in single payment to the farmers to lessen their burden of farm loans. Well, no one knows if that has happened or not till date.

Meanwhile, with the banks cracking their whips on middle-level and small holding farmers, they are totally distressed as they are left without money and land.

It is known that the farmers who lease out their lands were getting about Rs 50000 for fertile lands and Rs 30000 for less fertile lands. Now, their situation is such where they have landed from the pan right into the fire. And the poor farmers have no clue how to salvage the situation.

Also, though the government had announced that it had allocated Rs 3168 crores for capital city development a few days back, now it is being said that all money actually belonged to the urban development department.

The latest figure being given out is Rs 303 crores and if that is indeed true, then it won’t be surprising if the capital city will take more than a decade to get completed.
