Can Naidu ask defected MLAs to quit and contest again?

The YSR Congress party has thrown a challenge to Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who has claimed victory for the TDP in the MLC elections in the districts dominated by YSR Congress party.

“If the TDP leadership thinks the people of Kadapa and Kurnool had really voted for their party because of the so-called developmental activities taken up by the Naidu government, it should prove it.

Naidu should ask the MLAs who had defected from the YSRC to the TDP to resign from their seats and win again in the ensuing by-elections,” YSRC spokesman and MLA G Srikanth Reddy challenged.

He said just because a few local body voters had cross-voted for the TDP after being bribed, it should not be construed that it was a people’s mandate.

Another YSRC legislator R K Roja expressed surprise over the TDP leaders shamelessly celebrating the victory in the MLC elections.

“Since Naidu could get away without punishment in the cash-for-vote case in Telangana, he had spent crores of rupees to purchase the voters in the MLC elections. But the moral victory belongs to the YSR Congress party,” she said.
