The Kapus do not want to be taken for granted and they have made their intentions pretty clear at Tuni. Their strategy is pretty much similar to the one adopted by Hardik Patel in Gujarat.
Hardik Patel had raised a demand for reservations for the ‘Patel community’ in Gujarat, something that took everyone by surprise because the community is highly affluent and well placed on the political ladder. Also, the CM of Gujarat is a Patel too.
There were agitations and violence in Gujarat but a no stage did the government bow into the show of intimidation there.
In Andhra Pradesh, the Kapus seem to have adopted a similar strategy. But there is a difference here! They were promised reservation! So, the CM has to live up to his poll promise.
Having said that, he cannot allow the protests to degenerate into a complete breakdown of law and order. Can he quell the disturbances as effectively as the Gujarat government did there?
