Blocking The Development In Old City

At a luncheon meeting between KCR and L&T Chairman, Naik, it was decided to commission the Metro Rail Project as soon as possible and stick to the deadline of 2017.

At the same time, the decision to realign the Metro rail route in Old City has been postponed.

MIM has demanded a realignment of the Metro Rail in Old City as they contend that the present planned route would result in the demolition of several dargahs, ashoorkhanas and mosques.

It demanded that the line pass along the Musi between Darulshifa and Falaknuma, instead of passing parallel to Salar Jung Museum and the high court building. Thanks to this controversy, even the soil test has not been conducted by the technical team of Metro Rail in Old City.

At this rate, it would be no surprise if the Metro Rail does not come at all in Old City. Why is the MIM objecting now for a route change? Why were they silent when the initial route map was announced?

The MIM controls Old City by playing on the fears of the minorities there. If development comes to that area and minorities are brought into the mainstream, they will lose their hold over the people. Hence, they try to stall such projects in whatever manner possible.
