BJP Cares A Damn For Naidu's RS Seat Offer?

BJP Cares A Damn For Naidu's RS Seat Offer?

If the speculations doing rounds in the Bharatiya Janata Party camp are to be believed, the party might not contest the forthcoming Rajya Sabha elections from Andhra Pradesh, scheduled to be held this month.

As many as four Rajya Sabha seats are going to fall vacant in Andhra Pradesh this time, for the first time after the bifurcation of the erstwhile united State.

While the ruling Telugu Desam Party can win three of them going by its MLAs’ strength in the Assembly, the remaining one seat will go to YSR Congress party.

Of the three seats, the TDP will have to offer one seat to the BJP as part of its coalition dharma. The names of union ministers M Venkaiah Naidu and Nirmala Sitaraman were doing rounds for the RS seat from AP till recently.

However, sources said the BJP leadership had decided against seeking an RS seat from the TDP since it would amount to continuing the bond for some more years and it will affect the BJP’s efforts to grow as an independent force in the coming years.

It would also pre-empt the BJP from exploring future partners in case the TDP graph goes down drastically.

“So, it wants to turn down the TDP offer of an RS seat,” sources said.
