Whenever there is an uproar from the people of Andhra Pradesh demanding special category status to the state, one BJP leader who comes out in the open to defend the party – and that is former union minister Daggubati Purandeshwari.
She does not hold any post in the party nor does she have any stake in the Centre. In fact, she had to join the BJP only for her political survival; and though nobody cares for her in the party, she tries to behave as if she is still a Union Minister.
It is nothing but natural for Telugu Desam Party president and chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu to react strongly, at least for the sake of his political exigencies, against the Centre’s decision not to grant special category status to AP.
And there are other senior leaders in the BJP to counter him – it could be Amit Shah or Arun Jaitely or Venkaiah Naidu or even Ram Madhav. But Purandeshwari is trying to speak on behalf of the party and give unsolicited advices to Naidu.
She says the Centre was ready to give as much financial assistance as it can to the State, provided the AP government submits accounts of the funds already released in the last two years.
Who is Purandeshwari to ask for accounts from Naidu and say that the Centre is ready to give funds? She is neither a minister nor spokesperson of the Centre. In fact, Arun Jaitely himself expressed his inability to give more funds because the Centre itself is in financial crisis.
It is better Purandeshwari keep her mouth shut and instead, strive for securing special status to the state.
