One cannot help feeling sorry for LK Advani. The BJP stalwart who at one time was hopeful of becoming the Prime Minister was comprehensively sidelined by the combine of Amit-Shah and Narendra Modi.
All his lieutenants including the likes of Murali Manohar Joshi were also sidelined. In fact, his decline in the party can be said to have started when he praised Mohammad Ali Jinnah during a tour of Pakistan. This one act changed his destiny as it attracted the wrath of the RSS.
Advani then rested his hopes on becoming the President of India. But the latest judgement in the Babri Masjid case has put paid completely to these hopes as well.
And it would not be an exaggeration to say that Narendra Modi probably orchestrated the whole thing.
Advani, Uma Bharati and others were actually acquitted in the Babri case by the Allahabad High Court. The CBI then filed a fresh appeal in the Supreme Court which called for a fresh inquiry into the demolition.
Even a small child in India knows that the CBI is a tool in the hands of whichever government is in power at the Centre.
The Centre could have easily prevented the CBI from filing an appeal in the Supreme Court but it chose not to or perhaps itself ordered the CBI to file the appeal.
Either way, this clearly marks the end of the road for LK Advani, a man who was a key element in the BJP coming to power in the first place along with Vajpayee.
