Deep disenchantment and anger was seen in Rayalaseema region, after Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N.Chandrababu Naidu made it clear that the capital would be set up ‘around Vijayawada only’.
Lawyers boycotted the work in courts and joined protests in Kurnool. They started an indefinite fast, demanding that Kurnool be declared as the capital of the state. At Kurnool Medical College, some students climbed the hoarding there and protested over the decision of the state government.
In Sri Krishnadevaraya University campus in Anantapur city, students protested over the statement and staged a rasta roko on Anantapur-Chennai Road. At the clock tower centre in Anantapur, the BC leaders burnt the effigy of Chandrababu Naidu.
A bandh was called in the Rayalaseema region after the statement of the chief minister. The bandh was successful in many parts of the region.
