61 Lakh Settlers In Telangana?

Telangana government’s new stunt has come out. The T government has requested the 14th Finance Commission to take the settlers into consideration while deciding on the taxes and giving special grants.

In a letter given to the Commission, the Telangana CM K Chandra Sekhara Rao had mentioned that in 1971, there were 3 lakh settlers and 2 lakh people from other states in a population of 1.27 crore.

However, the numbers increased over the years and the number of settlers reached 67 lakh.

Among them, 37 lakh were from Andhra while the rest of 24 lakh belonged to other states.

According to their estimate, out of the 3.5 crore population, 67 lakh people were settlers. But it is interesting to note that the Telangana government has requested this factor to be taken into consideration while giving aid to the state.

It remains to be seen if other states will follow suit.
