Yes, Chandrasekhar Yeleti (Chandu) as arrived into the Telugu mainstream films! Okkadunnadu, the latest film of Chandu with Gopichand in the lead is out and out mass gory film. If you have seen Chandu’s earlier two films – Ithe and Anukokunda Oka Roju – then you are in for a surprise. The same director has dished out this is thriller which leaves you to gasp for some good sense in the overall film… but alas there is no flicker of earlier Chandu’s direction, in fact this is just like any other film which we are witnessing in the past six months.

Idea of the film is definitely interesting, but execution (which was expected to be better) is a major let down for viewers. It is not that everything in the film is bad… there are certain sequences that have been conceived well, but nothing registers in the mind because of the gory action sequences. Maybe Chandu was desperate to hit the mainstream market rather than keep to his image of being an offbeat commercial director. If that was the goal, then he has achieved it.

The story
Yes the idea is good… The film is completely set in the Mumbai backdrop. Mumbai mafia don Sonu Bhai (Mahesh Manjerekar) has a major heart disease and lives on a heart pace maker. He is on a desperate look out for a person with “Bombay” blood group (have anybody heard blood group by name “Bombay” or maybe he meant ‘B’) so that he can have his heart transplant done. Sounds good, but doesn’t carry much logical sense!

Meanwhile we have our heroine – Goutami (Neha Julka) doing real estate business in Mumbai. Just imagine a woman doing real estate business and that too in Mumbai… you must be wondering if she is running a parallel mafia… but no… she is like any other heroine who is sensitive and sexy (with lots of padding to her clothes)! Our hero Kiran (Gopichand) comes to her from Hyderabad since she is mediating the sale of Kiran’s guesthouse in Mumbai.

Kiran is son of famous banker Venkateshwara Rao (Suman) and owner of Venkateshwara Bank. The bank runs into trouble and investors attack the bank… now after selling all their property to overcome the trouble, they have to get another Rs 4 crore amount to pay as bribe to a person who will influence RBI to get funding… Kiran is behind Goutami to make her get the money after the sale of his guesthouse.

Even as this drama goes on, our hero is with “Bombay” blood group and Sonu Bhai and his right hand Jayadev are after Kiran for taking his heart to transplant it into Sonu Bhai. From here it is the story of how Kiran fights is life out of these villains and how he saves his father out of the bank trouble… Meanwhile you have slight sniff of love or attraction (whatever you call it) between Kiran and Goutami.

The Analysis
This yet another film where hero confronts the bigwigs of mafia while he is much busy with his personal problems. Though the situations and settings are new, there is not much to adore about this film. In fact you understand that the director has been struggling to place himself on the big league of commercial directors and that is reason he has joined the bandwagon of making gory action flicks.

Gopichand performance is mediocre and nothing to rave about, the new actress – Neha Julka - is very ordinary and she would have looked better if the padding used on her could have been of lesser sizes. Nazar with is evergreen performance steels the show and has done a great job to lift the film out of doldrums. Mahesh Manjerekar is done a neat job and his acting is very apt for the role given to him. The role of the brother of Goutami is useless and his one scene presentation never conveys anything to the film. Similarly Brahmanandam’s role is of no importance to the film and his falling into the pit and then coming out at the end is sheer lack of sense of humour on the director’s part!

There is nothing else to talk about, except that Chandu should have made this film a mind game rather than an action thriller. If only he had shown hero has a person who plays with the villains through his strategies and gadgets it would be a better film. The overdose of action has made this ‘yet another film’! All the technical departments have nothing to be mentioned about.
