Hundreds, Thousands, Lakhs, Crores, gold, diamonds, rubies and many more would fall into the hundi of Lord Venkateswara in Tirumala everyday. The money should be rightly used for welfare of poor people. That is the motive of this film. Director has chosen a socio-fantasy drama to pass on this message that sounds to be apt at the end.

Story

Note: Story is not being narrated here sufficiently as every part is linked up to suspense elements in it.

Kubera collects and carries the interest from Lord Vekateswara of Tirumala every Saturday. Major part of that big money and jewelry in hundi is the outcome of sins and crimes committed by humans. Narada encounters him and recalls the curse of Goutama Muni.

Once, when Goutama Muni approaches Kubera for debt, the latter insults the former in the drowse of ale. Then Goutama curses Kubera stating that he would keep on carrying the sins of Humans. Kubera comes out from hangover with this curse and falls on the feet of Goutama asking for remedy. Then Goutama asks Kubera to find a great human being and serve him to get emancipation from the curse.

Here in Bhoolokam, Srinivas (Raja) happens to be that great man who serves people with complete selflessness. He works as a car driver and earns very little amount. His financial status doesn’t permit him to serve as per his desire. He gives shelter for an orphan girl Siri (Baby Harshita) as well.

Kubera identifies Srinivas and helps him. How he helps, how the story takes turns and how Anupama (Bhumika) comes into the life of Srinivas has to be watched on screen.

Performances

Raja performed well and his histrionics are impressive. Bhumika played an interesting role with suspense factor like in ‘Missamma’. Tanikella Bharani is apt in his role while SP Balasubrahmanyam performed firmly as Kubera. Goparaju Ramana, although portrayed a short role as Purohit in climax brings laughs to some extent. Ali is suitable in the role of Raja’s friend.

KV Ramana’s Art Work is impressive and graphics played good role in the film. Pushpaka Vimanam and Alakapuri scenes are shown in highly impressive manner. The Lord Venkateswara scene in climax is also hair rising.

Radhakrishna’s music is just average this time and holds no novelty.

  • The song yegiray Chitikantha sounds like ‘Chitti Chilakamma..’ in Bangaram. Adding to this Radhakrishna mixed the interlude from old melody ‘Parugulu Theeyali…’
  • The song ‘I Love You Hello Hello..’ holds good beat and little appealing to masses.

Indraganti Mohana Krishna, after directing the art film ‘Grahanam’, ventured to commercial arena with this film. He is successful to some extent and still he needs to work to hold the right pulse of mass audiences. Again, it can be observed that Indraganti grooved his Grahanam team in this film. Producers must be lauded for not compromising to bring richness to scenes relating to Kubera in limited budget.

Scenes Worth-Mentioning:

  • Kubera flying in Pushpaka Vimanam
  • Alakapuri’s graphical set
  • Climax scene of Lord Venkateswara with the same concluding verse from old Mayabazar

Suggestive Betterments:

o Hair stylist’s job must have been better, especially for Narada and Kubera.

Notable Dialogue:

Raja: (showing hunger stricken young boys and girls) Pachchanotu okkati kadupu nimpaledhu. Pachchanotiki gunde chappudu kooda thodaiithey manatho paatu veellu kooda thintaaru…

Analysis:

The caption Myth, Money and Magic is rightly given to this film as the theme rotates among these three. Since the film has resemblance with old ‘Mayabazar’ in a few characterizations, the title also appears to be apt.

The film appeals to the class audiences.

First half of the film runs with sentiment, comedy and mythology while second half adds action and conspiracy to it. The climax proves to be highlight although dramatic. Since the film is made as a socio-fantasy it must be watched with relevant bent of mind.

Yet, Little boredom proves to be inevitable amidst the film.

There were many films where Yama are Ghatotkacha are shown as mythological characters in socio-fantasy films. Now, the turn has come to Kubera resembling Ghatotkacha in Mayabazar.

Comedy is very subtle and appeals to a set of audiences. It is a message oriented film coated with fantasy and comedy.

Bottom Line: Appeals for Family Audiences
