Screen Buzz: Ash’s Last Legion to be released here in August
Aishwarya Rai’s Hollywood film, The Last Legion, has topped the Russian box office charts. The film has grossed over Rs 8 crores in its opening week in Russia. Co-starring Sir Ben Kingsley and Colin Firth (Bridget Jones’s Diary, Love Actually), this is Ash’s first foreign film, where she plays a non-Indian character. But, the film’s India release has been postponed. Aishwarya plays the role of a warrior princess with the distinctively Indian name Mira. She has done her own stunts in the film that include horse riding and sword fighting. The film was scheduled to hit theatres in India in April but apparently, it seems the makers were requested to postpone their release to August, keeping in mind Ash’s high profile wedding to Abhishek Bachchan.
The film features the former Miss World in an uninhibited body display. The film’s promo depicts Ash in a suggestive scene, the screenshots of which have been very popular on the Internet for a long time now. To avoid a further culture shock for her desi fans that are known to judge a married heroine differently in India, the film’s release has been pushed ahead by a few months.
Sources reveal that “the passionate kiss between Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya lead to a lot of controversy and the Bachchans were miffed with Hrithik. The Dhoom star wasn’t even invited for the Abhi-Aish wedding last month. Since Aishwarya had shot for The Last Legion long before her engagement to Abhishek and since the film is not an Indian production, she cannot request her passionate scenes to be deleted. One cannot rule out the possibility of requests from her close quarters to push the release date ahead. If her first major Hollywood production is doing good business there will definitely be more such film offers for her. It emains to be seen though if she will take on more Hollywood films post-marriage.”
