Top 5: Defies Demonetization, EPC Having Dream Run

1) Ekkadiki Pothavu Chinnavada: This supernatural thriller is having a dream run at the box office. Released amid severe cash crunch, the film went from strength to strength through the weekend to collect around 9.5 crore gross in three days.

The film is declared a hit already by the trade given its low production costs. EPC also turned out to be the biggest grosser in Nikhil’s career in US as it has collected $ 282K by Saturday which is way higher than Nikhil’s Karthikeya and Swamy Rara total gross.

2) Sahasam Swasaga Sagipo: Naga Chaitanya’s romantic thriller is still hanging there. As per trade reports there is no improvement in its collections across B and C centers.

Barring Nizam, SSS will go down as a failure. Releasing right after the demonetization announcement affected the prospects of this Gautham Menon’s film.

3) Force 2: John Abraham’s Force was a decent hit in Bollywood. It was an official remake of Gautham Menon’s Gharshana (Kaakha Kaakha).

Director Abhinav Deo made a sequel to it with John and Sonakshi as the leads. But he failed to recreate the magic of the original. However the collections have been encouraging so far. It remains to be seen whether it holds well after a decent first weekend.

4) Ghatana: Nithya Menen’s old Malayalam movie has been dubbed into Telugu as Ghatana. Based on a true incident, this murder mystery had an interesting plot, but it has become too stale for our audience to watch it in cinemas. It will be a big failure at the box office despite Nithya’s presence.

5) Kashmora: It is still running in few single screens as there are not many new releases over last two weeks. Kashmora is an above average grosser on the whole and could have been a hit if not for demonetization.
