Naidu calls Lagadapati: What's on?

The surprising visit of former Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal to Andhra Pradesh Secretariat at Amaravati to meet chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu raised many eyebrows on Tuesday.

Lagadapati had a one-on-one interaction with Naidu for about half an hour and left the place quietly.

When media persons questioned him as to what he had discussed with the chief minister, Lagadapati said there was no political significance to the meeting.

“In fact, I did not come here on my own. The chief minister himself called me to discuss certain things,” he told media.

This is not the first time that Lagadapati had met Naidu in the Secretariat. A few months ago, he paid a visit to the Velagapudi complex and praised the chief minister for completing Secretariat in such a short period.

There were reports then that the former MP had met Naidu to lobby for his Lanco Kondapalli power project issue. It also led to speculations that he would be joining the TDP. However, Lagadapati categorically declared that he would not be returning to politics.

Now, when Naidu himself called Lagadapati for a discussion, there must be something serious in the matter which they had discussed.

May be, Naidu sought Lagadapati’s help in conducting a favourable survey for the government; or in consolidating the support of the community for the TDP in the next elections.

“May be, Naidu also sought his help in mobilising funds for the party to fight the next elections,” a source said.
