'Temper' To Showcase NTR's Best: Puri

'Temper' To Showcase NTR's Best: Puri

Puri Jagannath and NTR have teamed up after more than a decade for ‘Temper’. Theatrical trailer and promo songs of ‘Temper’ have created a lot of hype on the film and both NTR and Puri are desperately waiting to score a hit at the box-office. ‘Temper’ is all set for a grand release across the globe in record number of theatres on February 13, 2015. Puri Jagannath spoke to us ahead of his film’s release and here are the excerpts of an exclusive interview.

Tell us about ‘Temper’?

I narrated a script to NTR and he was very much excited with the storyline. When we decided to go ahead with that script, NTR asked me to listen to Vakkantham Vamsi’s story. Tarak told me that Vamsi narrated this script 4 years back. Vamsi was able to convince me with his script. Basically, I felt that I got an opportunity to present NTR in a lively role. Who wants to miss such a golden opportunity? Not me.

Tarak will entertain the audience from beginning to the end. His mannerisms, dialogues and his dance moves are an added attraction for our powerful script.

You first film with NTR was a disaster. Did you find it hard to convince NTR to work with you after that?

I think Tarak called me 3 days after ‘Andhrawala’ was released. He said “Puri anna, we should make a film. Tell me, whenever you are ready. I’m always ready to work with you”. Even though we didn’t work for the past 11 years, I do talk with Tarak now and then and we talk about our projects. I don’t know what people outside the industry think about us. No hero or a director will carry a baggage along with them. For example, I have completed shooting for ‘Temper’. Now, I’m looking forward the release and after that, I will be busy with my next film. NTR, Kajal and everyone will be busy with their own works. That is how it works.

You have directed 26 films so far with your own stories. Did you face any problems to work with another writer?

Basically, I’m a writer. In the past, I informed many producers that I’m open to direct other stories if that writer is able to convince me with his script. As told to you earlier, Vamsi came up with a wonderful script. I didn't find any reasons to decline it. In fact, Tarak asked me twice if I’m sure about this script and I said yes.

There is a perception in the industry that Vakkantham Vamsi doesn’t end his story in 3 hours and your stories doesn’t last for more than 15 minutes?

(Smiles) I wrote ‘Pokiri’ in 12 days and ‘Devudu Chesina Manshulu’ also in 12-13 days. It’s my way of writing the script. Even if you give me 3 months to come up with a script, I will complete the script in less than 4 weeks.  I think I’m capable of presenting a story to the audience only in my style. I can’t decide the fate of my film on day one itself. If I had that power, I would have delivered 26 blockbusters so far.

Coming to Vamsi, what you said is correct. But, NTR’s characterisation is the USP of ‘Temper’. We have a good length of a story in 'Temper' and both Vamsi and me worked hard for the characterisation of Tarak. It’s a kind of new experience for both of us as Tarak will be seen in a negative role in most part of the film. When you have a live wire like Tarak as a hero, 15 minutes or 3 hours won’t matter. He will mesmerise audience with his performance and our entire team is looking forward to the release.

Normally, you take less than 3 month to complete a film. What happened with ‘Temper’?

We have completed ‘Temper’ in 75 days. But as told to you earlier, we had to stop shooting two times due to various reasons. That is why it took so long for the film to complete.

Heroines have a very good roles in your films. How important is Kajal’s role in this film?

Kajal is one of the sweetest heroines I’ve worked with. She doesn’t take much time to understand a scene and she is a brilliant performer. Kajal’s role is pivotal in this movie. I can’t reveal more, but she did her best for the film.

Tell us about your technical team?

Anup gave us some good numbers and feedback for the songs are good. You will see a new Tarak in the songs and Kajal will be stunning. Brahma Kadali, SR Sekhar, Sam K Naidu and every one of my technicians have delivered their best for the film.

For the first time in your career, you have faced lot of problems to complete a film. First it was a financial problem and then a personal tragedy to NTR. What kind of pressure did you go through for the past 6 months?

I do agree with you. Lot of things happened and yes I had to go through a lot of pressure. We wanted to complete and release the film long back but as you know, things weren’t that easy. In spite of all these, I’m happy with the final product. Tarak and Ganesh have watched the film with their families and they are very confident about the film.

Why can’t you limit your perversion to your house and come up with normal films? (Question from a Twitter user)

Creativity has many synonyms and I think this is one among them. Well, I request this respected Twitter user to enter into the industry and make a film. Because, only then I can understand how to make a normal film.

Are you aware of the rumours about your link-up with Charmee and some controversy about NTR and Madhurima?

I prefer to be silent most of the times and I won’t speak until I feel that it is very important to address. Madhurima has a very important role in the film and she did a very good job. She didn’t have much interaction with NTR, but Tarak himself said to me that Madhurima has done a decent job. We didn't had any issue with Madhurima and whatever came on the news was just a job of some gossipmonger.

Coming to the other question, Charmme is a very good friend of mine for the past 10 years, We even worked for ‘Buddha Hoga Tera Baap’ in Bollywood. I went to ‘Temper’ audio function along with my daughter and Charmme. Since then, my team has been telling me that some people are wanted writing unnecessary stuff about me and her. There is not truth in this rumours and I request everyone to stop writing these things.

You future projects?

I will start ‘Jyothilakshmi’ with Charmee in another 10 days followed by another film with Varun Tej.

When can we expect your film with Mahesh Babu?

We are going to work together very soon. Both of us are in touch with each other and I will definitely let you guys know when things fall into place.
