A Detailed Analysis of K150 & GPSK OS Business

Both Khaidi No. 150 and Gautamiputra Satakarni did well in overseas in the first weekend by grossing $2.1 Million and $1.2 Million respectively. GPSK is the first to breakeven among the two while Khaidi is closing in on the breakeven mark.

Khaidi No. 150 overseas rights were bought for Rs. 12 crore out of which 2 crore is refundable by the producer if it fails to collect that amount. The other big release Gautamiputra Satakarni’s overseas rights were sold for Rs. 5 crore.

Overseas distributor has reportedly sold ‘rest of the world’ distribution rights of Khaidi No. 150 for Rs. 2.5 crore, which means the film has to recover another Rs. 9.5 crore from US market to breakeven. Normally, 55% of the gross collection is considered as the distributor share in this territory.

Khaidi collected $2,104,844 (Rs. 14.32 cr) till Sunday. Nearly Rs. 7.9 crore (distributor share) was recovered in its first weekend and it should collect another Rs. 1.6 crore share to breakeven. So the distributor is into safe zone as he recovered more than Rs. 10 crore already. As per prior agreement, he will get back the refund even if it fails to recover the remaining amount.

On the other hand, Gautamiputra Satakarni collected $1,223,497 (Rs. 8.32 cr) until Sunday. Therefore, Rs. 4.6 cr is the distributor share in US and it fetched Rs. 90 lakh from the rights of Rest of the world. Which means GPSK is already into profits and is going to make more in the coming days as trade believes that it will gross $ 2 Million in the long run.
