P Shankar Rao in getting a berth in the Y S Rajasekhar Reddy
Cabinet during the recent expansion?
Well, it was his own father-in-law
and Peddapalli MP G Venkatswamy. In fact, the Chief Minister
wanted to take Shankar Rao into the Cabinet and included his
name in the list sent to the high command, since he hails
from SC community representing backward Mahbubnagar district.
And the high command, too, had almost cleared his name; but
somebody suddenly pointed out that Shankar Rao is the son-in-law
of Venkatswamy, whose son G Vinod is already enjoying the
minsiterial positon in the State.
So, the high command asked
Venkatswamy to choose between Shankar Rao and Vinod, as two
members of the same family cannot be given the ministerial
posts. If Shankar Rao had to be accommodated, Vinod would
have to be dropped. Naturally, Venkatswamy preferred his son
to son-in-law and the high command accepted his wish.
It is learnt, all is not well between the families of Shankar
Rao and Venkatswamy for quite some time. So, it was no surprise
that Venkatswamy opposed the post to Shankar Rao!
