Behind The Scene: Now Telangana movement gets caste colour!
The movement for separate Telangana State is as old as the State of Andhra Pradesh itself. The fight has thus far been limited to just separate of Telangana State where people of all communities and groups find a peaceful place to live in and prosper.
But of late, the agitation has turned into casteist proportions. The reason, suspension of senior TRS leader A Narendra from the party. Narendra has no card to play to gain popularity and put TRS president K Cahndrasekhar Rao in the dock. And what is the best way, in the Indian context, to gain cheap popularity and put the opponent on the defencive? Just play the caste card.
Narendra has now ganged up with Kasani Gnaneshwar, MLC and BC leader on one hand and film actress Vijay Shanti on the other. Since all these leaders belong to backward classes, now the Telangana movement will be led by BCs. The move is quite clear. Since the other Telangana movement is lead by an upper caste leader Chandrasekhar Rao, Narendra wants to take on him and settle political scores with his BC leadership.
According to sources, Narendra is also planning to rope in minorities who make up around 15 per cent (Muslims and Christians together) of the local population. And if Narendra succeeds in gaining the support of Dalits, then Chandrasekhar Rao will be in trouble.
Chief Minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy and his bete noire Telugu Desam supremo N Chandrababu Naidu will be too happy to see the two separate Telangana protoganists - KCR and Narendra - logged on a caste war. Whether the people of Telangana benefit or not is not know. But YSR and Babu will certainly emerge winners in the fight betweeen the two Telangana leaders.
