Behind The Scene: PJR on the way to suspension?
The APCC leadership has for the first time cracked the whip against dissidents in an unprecedented manner. Never before in the history of the Congress in Andhra Pradesh four senior legislators were suspended from the party in one go. The so-called disciplinary action had thus far been limited to "small fish" in the party while big leaders always escaped the punishment. According to Gandhi Bhavan sources, AICC supremo Sonia Gandhi does not want dissidence to grow in the Congress in Andhra Pradesh as any bad electoral result in the State will have its direct impact on the Congress prospects of forming a government at the Centre. History has proved it more than once and Sonia Gandhi knows this very well.
The APCC jumped into action a day after AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh gave his green signal for action against the Congress legislators, M Chandrasekhar Reddy, Adala Prabhakar Reddy and Naresh Kumar Agarwal and party associate legislator K Lakshmaiah Naidu. Show-cause notice was also issued to Shadnagar legislator P Shankar Rao.
All this shows that the AICC leadership is firm against dissidence and non-cooperation from party leaders. Sources point out that the suspension of four legislators in one go in an indirect warning to city dissident MLAs P Janardhan Reddy and M Sashidhar Reddy, who have on a warpath against Chief Minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy. The latest charge they have come out with against the chief minister is that the Pothireddypadu irrigation works will not benefit Rayalaseema farmers as it was meant to supply water to a steel plant being planned by YSR's son Jaganmohan Reddy.
Sources point out that the next in line of disciplinary action is Janardhan Reddy and Sashidhar Reddy, the legislator-duo popularly known as Hyderabad brothers.
