Fact Sheet: Naidu wooing rebels and independents!
Former
Chief Minister and Telugu Desam president N Chandrababu Naidu
has turned his attention on the strong independent candidates,
who can tilt the scales in favour of the TD in the next elections.
TD sources say Naidu wants
to capitalise on the disgruntlement among the Congress dissidents
and independents who could not get the benefits from the ruling
party. In Nellore, for instance, he made quick moves to invite
Atmakur independent legislator Kommi Lakshmaiah Naidu, who
was suspended from the associate membership of Congress on
Sunday, into the TD fold. Lakshmaiah Naidu, who desperately
tried for the TD ticket in the 2004 elections, won the seat
independently and joined the Congress as an associate member.
But the Congress suspended him, alleging that he had played
a major role in the defeat of Congress candidate C V Sesha
Reddy in the recent MLC elections.
Lakshmaiah has come out openly
and said the Congress would be routed in Nellore in the next
Assembly elections, paving way for the TD victory. "We
have our own political strategies to join and contest from
Telugu Desam and the wind is in favor of TD all over the district,"
he noted.
In Srikakulam, Naidu has wooed
newly elected MLC Gorle Haribabu and several ZPTC and MPTC
members of the Congress into the TD. In Mahbubnagar, he ensured
the victory of a Congress rebel Revanth Reddy.
