Fact Sheet: MSR stays away from dissidence, for now!
While
every senior Congress MLA who could not make it to the Cabinet
in the recent expansion has started raising the voice of dissent
against Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, former minister
and senior Congress MLA M Satyanarayana Rao, known for his
maverick behaviour, is strategically staying away from the
dissidents camp, at least for now.
Though MSR also expected to
stage a comeback into the Cabinet and was disappointed for
being denied the same, he does not want to be in a hurry to
come out openly against the Chief Minister. On the other hand,
he is avoiding meeting the dissident leaders. The strategy
is simple: MSR is desperately trying to get the Governor's
post and is making frequent trips to New Delhi these days
to lobby with his sources in the AICC. At present, he is patiently
waiting for Sonia Gandhi's appointment to put forth his request.
His argument is that
senior BJP leader and Sikkim Governor V Rama Rao will be completing
his term very shortly and as such, it would be better to have
one senior leader from Andhra Pradesh in the post. And there
is no better person than him to get the same. He would tell
Sonia that he was fed up with petty politics in the State
and he had expected to become at least the Speaker's post,
which is non-political. Since it did not happen, he would
be happy if he is given the Governor's post, so that he could
stay away from the State politics for five years. Hope Sonia
would react positively!
