Behind The Scene: Dozen Cong MLAs look up to TD
The Congress high command is learnt to have obtained a report from Central intellingence sources that at least a dozen MLAs of the party are looking up to the Telugu Desam and have already started bargaining for the party tickets in the 2009 Assembly elections.
Gandhi Bhavan sources say these MLAs have got enough hints from Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy that they would not be getting tickets again in the next Assembly elections. Their performance as MLAs has been miserable and on the other hand, they had made huge money through illegal means. Their participation in the government programmes is far from satisfactory and their relationship with party cadres is also very bad, the intelligence reports indicate.
Interestingly, most of these MLAs are from East and West Godavaries, Visakhapatnam, Guntur and Nellore districts. Some of them had reportedly contacted Telugu Desam president N Chandrababu Naidu and offered to support the TD candidates in the recent MLC elections, provided he assured them of tickets in the next elections. The names of these MLAs, however, are being kept secret since it would trigger trouble in the Congress party right now, the Gandhi Bhavan sources say.
