Fact Sheet: Naidu steals the show on YSR day!
At a time when Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy is celebrating completion of his third year in power at the "Rededication Day" meeting in Hyderabad on Monday, Telugu Desam president N Chandrababu Naidu strategically choose his timing to stage a "Maha Dharna" at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi to hit the headlines.
The TD president knows that the day-long dharna in New Delhi will him nation-wide media coverage and will catch the attention of the powers that be in the Centre. And if there is any police lathicharge on the agitators, it would give tremendous political mileage to him. The newspapers would give him the front page headline and the coverage about YSR's rededication day would be relegated to bottom of the front page or inside pages.
Secondly, TD president is also aware that there would be voices of dissent at the Rededication Day meeting that would lead to clashes among the supporters and opponents of YSR. And naturally, media would give prominence to them, rather than to the speeches of YSR or Digvijay Singh. As expected, leaders like M Satyanarayana Rao, Shankar Rao and P Janardhan Reddy who spoke at the meeting expressed their dissatisfaction over YSR's performance and his government. The Chief Minister had to pacify them, saying the media, which was dead against him, would try to capitalise on the internal differences.
The electronic media gave a live coverage of both the events, but obvious prominence was given to TD dharna!
