Behind The Scene: Ambani's face off with YSR!
AICC president Sonia Gandhi's antipathy towards Ambanis of Reliance group has brought troubles for Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy.
The Reliance group struck tremendous gas reserves in Krishna Godavari basin in Bay of Bengal and is all set to extract the gas by 2008. Naturally, it should be a boon to Andhra Pradesh, which is starved of natural gas for its power projects and fertiliser companies. However, instead of coming to an amicable agreement with the Ambanis over supply of gas to the State, the Chief Minister told them in strong terms that unless the needs of AP are fulfilled, he would not allow the Reliance to lay pipeline through the State to any other part of the country.
Ambanis have understood this as a pressure tactics from Sonia and YSR. The Reliance group is made it clear to the State government that it would not be in position to supply gas at cheaper rates to the AP and it has to compete with other customers in getting the gas. While AP government does not have any MoU with Reliance, other States like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra already entered into an agreement with it. So, if YSR is adamant, it would only complicate the matters further and the State would be at heavy loss!
