Fact Sheet: Telangana intellectuals at cross roads!
With Telangana Rashtra
Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao and suspended senior
leader washing their dirty linen in the public by making wild
allegations against each other, different groups working seriously
for Telangana cause have run into a state of confusion.
A meeting of Telangana intellectuals
in Karimnagar on Sunday expressed concern over the recent
developments in the TRS and the crisis would have a serious
impact on the Telangana movement, as the people might not
believe the leaders. It would take a long time to project
another alternative political force, if the people do not
believe in the TRS.
Adding to their concern, the
TRS president has once again started looking up to the UPA
government, without getting any positive announcement from
Sonia Gandhi. Till the other day, KCR made it very clear that
the TRS would go it alone in the elections to prove the real
strength of the party; but if it decides to join hands with
the Congress again, the situation would come back to square
one. It is evident that KCR took the decision with an obvious
fear about growing popularity of the Telugu Desam in the Telangana
region. But it will definitely send wrong signals among the
people. For the time being, the intellectuals have decided
to confine themselves to propagating the Telangana issue and
stop canvassing for one party or the other.
