Fact Sheet: Heavy rush for Mangalagiri houses!
Interesting as it might sound, there has been a tremendous rush from the people to apply for houses under Rajiv Swagruha scheme, announced by the State government for the urban middle class, in the Mangalagiri area between Vijayawada and Guntur.
This is the highest response, compared to in any other municipal area in the State. The reason is not beyond one's comprehension: There is a big rumour that the UPA government has more or less decided to grant Telangana State and it is a matter of time that the State is divided into two. If that happens, the Capital of Andhra State would be Vijayawada-Guntur area, which would be developed into a Greater Vijayawada.
The people are carried away by these rumours and applied for the government houses in large numbers, fearing that the land prices would shoot up in the coming days. Now, the government is in a piquant situation, as it has to find huge extents of land to construct houses to the middle class at cheaper rates.
