Communist Party of India state secretary K Narayana congratulated the Telangana Rashtra Samithi party candidates for their resounding victory in the by-elections, but made an appeal to them: “please don’t resign again.”
Commenting on the results, Narayana said the results should be an eye-opener to the Congress and the Telugu Desam Party which had adopted double standards on the Telangana issue. “Both the parties adopted different stands in Andhra and Telangana. They should have maintained some consistency, good or bad, on the Telangana issue. Because of their double standards, they had lost heavily in Telangana,” he said.
He, however, said the TRS should also learn a lesson from the bypolls. “The present elections were held under exceptional circumstances. The people did not want to send a negative message to the Srikrishna Committee by defeating any of the TRS candidates. That does not mean they are completely with the TRS. At least now, the party leaders should focus on fighting for the people’s issues in the region. I request them not to resign from their seats again and impose burden on the people. They may not give the same verdict again and again,” he said.
