It was a pitiable performance by the Telugu Desam Party in the Telangana by-elections. Leave alone winning any seat, the party could not retain deposits in many constituencies, as per the latest trends.
For instance, in Siddipet constituency, TDP candidate Babu Mohan could poll just 5,200 votes and stood at the bottom of the table, losing his deposit. One wonders whether the TDP does not have even 5,000 workers in Siddipet who voted for Babu Mohan. In his election campaign, he would have moved with at least a few thousand party leaders and workers and even if their family members voted for him, he would have polled at least 15-20,000 votes. So, it clearly shows even the TDP workers voted for TRS candidate T Harish Rao.
In Vemulawada, according to reports, the TDP candidate was lagging behind even an independent candidate. Similar reports are coming from other parts of the Telangana constituencies. The TDP leaders are showing lame excuses for their defeat, saying the people have not voted for political parties but were determined to vote back the resigned candidates. Hence, the loss. The party vote bank is still in tact, they say. What an explanation!
