Controversy is shrouding around ‘Komaram Puli’ movie, starring Pavan Kalyan and scheduled to release in the second week of August as Adivasis are demanding for changing the title of the movie.
Mesram Bapurao, leader of Telangana Adivasi Upa Kulala Ikya Vedika, said the word Komaram was popular and associated with tribal legendary Komuram Bheem who was killed fighting with the Nizam forces. “The word ‘Komaram’ was the name of a clan in the Adivasis and using that word for film is nothing but insulting the Adivasi culture and tradition,” he said.
Bapurao said Chiranjeevi and his brother Pavan Kalyan had already cheated the people of the Telangana in the name of Samajika Telangana and opined Adivasi would not tolerate any move to degrade the tribal legendary Komaram Bheem who became synonymous for the fight.
Earlier, Adivasis had raised objection over the movie ‘Sammaka Sarakka’ whom Adivasis considered as goddesses alleging that their traditions and culture was distorted in the movie. They are expressing doubts that there was possibility of distorting the history of the Komaram Bheem and portray his fight in poor light in the Komaram Puli as it was commercial movie.
The Adivasi leaders are likely to approach A.P Film Censor Board to appeal to stop the movie from releasing.
