TANA irregularities: Polls may be postponed

The polls to elect the new office-bearers of TANA are scheduled to be held in April. However, there is a strong likelihood of the polls being postponed as the organization finds itself in a soup over various alleged irregularities.

Most importantly, a case has been filed in a US Court and TANA current office-bearers have been issued a legal notice asking them to respond to allegations of financial irregularities by March 24, 2017.

At the gist of the allegations is the 20th TANA convention held at Detroit on July 2-4, 2015. TANA office-bearers have shown net revenue of 2.99 million dollars for this convention against expenses of 2.93 million dollars.

Quite significantly, TANA has shown an increase of more than 1 million dollars in expenses compared to the last convention held in Dallas. How can the convention’s expenses increase by 1 million dollars?

Repeated e-mail enquiries requesting proper receipts and vouchers for the said convention, from the TANA office-bearers had gone unsolicited leading to the legal notice being slapped against them.

Besides, there are also complaints that nearly 7,000 bogus voters have been added to the membership list and that this particular list is up for sale.

Therefore, considering the ongoing controversies, the election to the executive body may well be postponed.
