Oblivious To Plight Of Fellow-Citizens

While their fellow citizens were reeling under the impact of the worst ever cyclone in decades, these two persons oblivious to their suffering decided to cash in on the calamity.

Mallireddy Sivaramakrishna of Vizianagaram district and K Lava Kumar of Srikakulam district, employees of a private agency entrusted with the job of loading cash into ATMs of ING Vysya Bank in the port city cleaned out Rs 9.37 lakh from one of the bank's ATMs at Balacheruvu Road in Gajuwaka under the cover of darkness caused due to power outage.

The crime took place on the night of October 12 after the intensity of Cyclone Hudhud had reduced relatively, but the theft was unearthed by bank officials only on October 17 after repeated customer complaints about the ATM running dry.

After investigations, Gajuwaka police arrested two employees of CMS Info System Private Limited on Saturday and recovered the money.

With complete breakdown of emergency services and infrastructure and prices of essential commodities skyrocketing overnight, people were desperate for cash and queued up in large numbers at various ATM’s.

Against such a backdrop, it was truly saddening and disgusting to see the behavior of these two individuals.
