Heights Of Sycophancy

Heights Of Sycophancy

Celebrity is a person that people look up to and run after. So it is kind of an accepted norm that people gather and try to celebrate their birthdays and other special days as if they were their family occasions.

To that extent, it is acceptable. But of late, this worship of an individual has reached new heights, be it in politics or in films.

If a politician's birthday happens, then there are huge celebrations in his constituency and the entire area almost comes to a standstill till the celebrations are complete.

Then, there are the film stars. The sycophancy has risen to the extent that now-a-days fans even fight in the name of their favourite stars.

And a recent incident has taken celebrating an individual to a totally different level. Now, everyone knows that Balayya's son Mokshagnya is being readied for debut any time soon.

The boy is barely 20 years old and going by the way his birthday was celebrated by TDP cadre and members of his dad's fan community is a reflection of the state of affairs.

Incidentally, Mokshagnya was not present, but cakes were cut and celebrations held as he happens to be the brother-in-law of Lokesh, the next boss of TDP. Also, he is the son of actor-MLA Balakrishna. Now all that has qualified him for the celebrations.

But is this what the party that has always criticised the Congress of promoting family politics trying to teach its party cadre? Is this not promoting a family and its interests?

Wonder what TDP has to say about this as not only is the party led by one family, but their family is also a major player in the film industry.

Even those who organise and carry out such celebrations do it for their own selfish ends. So isn't it time to put a stop to such mindless birthday celebrations of heroes and stars?

Shouldn't politicians and stars collectively discourage their 'fans' from indulging in such individual worship?
