The previous UPA administration will go down in Indian history as the most corrupt regime ever. The list of scams which robbed the nation of invaluable resources is too long to be mentioned here.
Anyway, Chidambaram had the honor of being one of the key functionaries of that dispensation. He also felt scared by what he referred to as growing intolerance in the country.
He expressed concern that, “The increasing tide of illiberalism and intolerance is frightening...illiberal zealots believe that the state is on their side. Illiberal zealots also believe that if they gather sufficient number they will be the state and their word will be law."
"Every idea that fosters inequality must be eliminated and the formation of a truly modern society would be impossible if this were not achieved", he said.
What these people should realize is that if India were really an intolerant country with Hindutva mobs on the rampage, these people wouldn’t be able to come out and make such statements in the first place.
It’s about time that the likes of Chidambaram, Barkha Dutt, Rahul, Salman, Shah Rukh, Aamir and Kiran Rao were put on a special plane and ferried off to a destination of their choice.
We can call it the ‘Sickular plane’. (Award wapsis will travel economy). That would be the biggest achievement for India since 1947.
