Behind The Scene: A House Divided!

Unity seems to be lacking in the Indian Cricket team. It is no secret that the ‘famous five’ of Indian batting, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, VVS Lakshman and Virender Sehwag were never on the best of terms with MS Dhoni.

But they were professional enough to put aside their personal differences in the larger interests of the team.

Today, MS Dhoni is the lone survivor and there are no experienced heads about in the team to lend the younger ones, the moral support and advice they need.

The Indian team is down 2-0 in the test series which could easily have been 2-0 in our favor or 1-1. However, after the loss of second test, MS Dhoni remarked that there was ‘lack of communication’ or ‘unrest’ in the dressing room.

Before the second innings, Shikhar Dhawan who was at the nets was injured when a delivery struck him on wrist. So, on the fourth day the team management was still undecided on whether Dhawan should go out to bat.

Apparently, Virat Kohli was just given notice of five to seven minutes before being asked to bat in place of Shikar Dhawan. This created a lot of unrest in the dressing room according to Dhoni.

Shikhar Dhawan who ended up batting down the order scored 81 prompting the debate whether he should have been forced to bat since he was a specialist opener.

Interestingly, Virat Kohli was also hit on his left forearm during the same practice session. Speculation is rife that the team has been divided into two camps: one under Dhoni and the other under the young and ambitious Virat.

With the world cup looming ahead, India had better get its act together.
